Abstract
Diabetes mellitus type 2, which is formerly known as noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, is common in Korean, compared with type 1, which is also known as insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. Although the cause of type 2 is still in debate, it has been shown that the secretion of insulin from beta-cell is hampered and thus stimulates the disease at least in Korean, In this report, we have focused on a historical backgronnd of hampered secretion of insulin in Korean and hypothesize that the beta-cel1 is overloaded and thus the reduction in production of insulin occurs due to diet changes occurred in relatively recent years. Thus, we suggest that the restriction on the consumption of cancentrated carbohydrates, for example, ice cream, soda, sugar and etc, is critical for the treatment.
